8 Common Mistake to Avoid for a Professional CV
If you’ve applied for multiple jobs and aren’t getting any responses, make sure to avoid these common mistakes when creating your CV.
CVs are the most important and detailed documents highlighting candidates’ professional, and academic history. It usually includes information like work experience, achievements & training, awards, projects, and job experience history where in this case candidates are making minor mistakes resulting in the interviewer rejecting their CV: –
- Inconstant Formatting: Candidates use different font sizes or styles, which can make a CV unprofessional. While making a CV, use a font size up to 12 to 14 and use the same font for the whole content (Calibri). Try to make it by yourself rather than using different templates and websites because the interviewer wants to see your dedication and creativity. The candidate should make a headline in bold for every topic, and the size of headline can make bigger than other content sizes. The candidate should leave one inch of space in each of the top, bottom, left, and right directions on the page, and should double space when switching topics.
- Missing Contact/wrong / Obsolete information: Missing, Wrong &Obsolete contact info can prevent recruiters from reaching you. Make sure to include your contact number, email, WhatsApp & permanent/ temporary address so that it would be possible for them to contact you.
- Grammatical or typing error: Simple mistakes can make a recruiter point out your professionalism and weaken your attention to detail. Try to use simple words or vocabulary that can be easily understandable & meaningful
- Omitted Job title & description: The applied job and previous job description should be specific and result-oriented. Where a candidate has to mention their job position, time-period & what were their duties & responsibilities . The candidate should highlight the major 4-5 duties as per the required vacancies, where the candidate’s duties align with the duties of the required vacancies. The job & education history should be in the present to past serial ; candidate should list the present experience & education on top & follow by older.
- Applied Job related Career Objectives/Summary: A professional & job-related summary can easily attract a recruiter or interviewer to review your CV where you have to show your strengths, career goals, job-oriented skills & try to include company requirements just like as education, married/unmarried, age, and so on.
- Ignoring the Length: Candidates should ensure to include major details in a short & simple way if the CV becomes lengthy it loses the reader’s interest. CV should be in 2 pages which is ideal try to include valid & important things rather than making it complicated.
- Unprofessional email: An unprofessional email address can create a negative first impression. Use your first and last name, if possible. For example, xiring.sherpa @email.com .Make sure your email address matches the name on your CV. This helps in making your application look more polished and organized.
- Updated CV: An outdated CV may not include your most recent experiences, skills, or accomplishments. Make sure to update CV which ensures that you’re highlighting your current qualifications and achievements. Make sure to mention your recent job experience, roles, skills & achievement.
